      Ruth E. Outhouse, 89, of Creston, died Dec. 13, 2006, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

      Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Creston. Memorials can be directed to Southwestern Community College Scholarship Fund and Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints Decatur Restoration Branch. Online condolences can be left at:

      Ruth Eleanor Outhouse, daughter of Sara Jane (Robinson) and Everett E. Gamet, was born April 21, 1917, in Mondamin. Ruth graduated from high school in Trenton, Mo., in 1934. She worked in Gallatin, Mo., and Bloomington, Ind., before joining her brother Ross in Creston to work for Hy-Vee as a clerk.

      On March 17, 1940, Ruth married Ernest Richard Outhouse in Creston. They lived in Creston most of their married life. Ruth was a homemaker, did baby-sitting and a noon-time supervisor at Irving School for several years. She later worked for Jim Artsinger Pharmacy. Ruth volunteered in the Greater Regional Medical Center gift shop and helped with the Meals on Wheels program. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints and a member of the Postal Auxiliary, Hospice and Greater Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

      Survivors include her husband, Dick Outhouse of Creston; daughter Diane (husband Dennis) Orwan of Lorimor; four sons, Richard (wife Carolyn) of Iowa City, William (wife Sharon) of Fort Smith, Ark., Chris (wife Haida) of Coupeville, Wash., and Todd of Oakland, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; brother Dale Gamet of Canton, Mo.; two sisters, Mable "Bunny" Taggart of Napa, Calif., and Inez Beutler of Oak Brook, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

      Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; sister Vida Giles; and three brothers, Bruce, Ross and Jim Gamet.
