1306 He is the son of John and Mary BRUNDAGE LEVERICH. He was a farmer and carpenter and lived in Cortlandt and Yorktown townships in Westchester County. He served as Justice of the Peace and Postmaster in Cortlandt. --- Benjamin is said to have "served on Long Island during the War of 1812" (Leverich Family Genealogy). He would have been about 19 years old, the same age his grandson George Albert Cruger was when he enlisted in the Army during the Civil War.

In 1850 he was living in Yorktown, Westchester County, New York, with his wife and two children, William and George, and earned a living as a farmer (U.S. Census).

Benjamin, wife Mary, and son George were living in Yorktown, Westchester, New York, in June of 1860 (U.S. Census).

At age 77, in July of 1870, he was living in Cortlandt, Westchester, New York, with Mary and, apparently, two boarders, and his occupation was still listed as farmer (U.S. Census). Combined real-estate value for him and his wife was $9,000. Source: George Cruger

1313 WILLIAM P. LEVERICH. He is the superintendent of the electric light department for the city at Ellensburg, Washington, a position he is filling with great success. He comes of famous old New York stock and was born in New York City in 1862. His father, Benjamin Leverich, was born in New York in 1828 and died of cholera in 1865. His mother, Mary (Hopson) Leverich, was also a native of New York, her ancestors being among those Hollanders who made the first settlement at New Amsterdam. His father died when William Leverich was but a few years old, so he knew little of his parent. His mother was left some means. The boy attended the common schools and started to learn the trade of boiler making. He did not take kindly to that employment and ran away, coming west when seventeen years old and locating in California. He joined the navy and served three years during which time he visited China and Japan and South America. He decided he could do better in other lines and left the navy and secured employment with the General Electric Company, at San Francisco. This line of work he has followed since with great success. He was in Astoria for seven years in the electrical business and moved to Ellensburg, Washington, December 28, 1898, to accept the position he now occupies.

Mr. Leverich was married in Astoria Oregon, in 1886 to Mary Miller, a native of St. Johns, New Brunswick. She died in 1897. They had one child, a daughter, Pearl, who was sixteen years old October 16, 1903, and who is living with her father at Ellensburg. Mr. Leverich has seven sisters and one brother living in New York. They are named respectively: Ada, Emma, Ella, Lydia, Sofia, Minnie and Lillie (twins), and George. Mr. Leverich is a member of the Republican party and takes considerable interest in political matters. He is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

1321 LUBBERT, the emigrant, brother of Willem Lubbertsen, also settled on Long Island immediately after his arrival in New Amsterdam, for on the 15th of December, 1662, he applied to the Schout and schepens of Flatbush for a building plot on the west side of the village and on the south side of the main road, as per Liber B, folio 14 of Flatbush records. Later he purchased, on the 20th of Aug., 1670, from Jan Miserol, a house at Rusten- burch, the local name of the southerly side of Flatbush, as per Liber A, folio 10, of Flatbush records. In Oct., 1673, he sold his farm lands obtained in 1662, to Cornelus Janse De Seen, for the sum of 4,000 guldens, and from this it may be inferred that he discontinued the life of a planter for a time and resided in the house purchased from Jan Miserol in 1670. No evidence is found of his having made any further purchases of lands on Long Island. To the above cited conveyances he signed himself LUBBERT LUBBERTS.
Prior to 1676 he removed from Flatbush, L.I., to Hackensack, N.J., then a sparsely settled community. He and his wife transferred their church membership from Flatbush to the congregation at Bergen, Oct. 2, 1676, as no organization existed in Hackensack at so early a period. The marriages of his children, Lubbert, Roelof, Jan, Margrietje and Maritie, are all recorded in the Bergen church.

1332 (Research):The relationship of father-son between William M and William J needs to be established. I have included it here because in the 1915 NY state census, William M has a lodger by the name of Martin Van Orman. Judging by the ages, and the city, they could be cousins, but I have established that fact through any other means. William M. MACK
