In Feb 1898, at the age of 29, Paul left his family to become part of the Alaskan Gold Rush. He returned in mid 1899 to operate a business in the Soldier, IA area. In 1913 Paul and sons Roy and Ray went to Wyoming to homestead land. Their families joined them in 1914. Ralph also claimed land there. His land is still in the family. According to Earl Howard, his grandfather was adventurous and tough, always looking for a better way to make money. At one point he even collected, raised, and sold wild horses. He also engaged in the dairy business. | George Paul Grant OUTHOUSE

Byrnes lists ca 1855. Notes for Hannah Outhouse: It is interesting to note that a Hannah Caldwell, wife of John, died January 24, 1858, aged 90 years. She is buried in the Dutch Churchyard, Fishkill Landing, Dutchess County NY. This fits exactly the ages and names of our Hannah so is it possible she was visiting relatives in New York when she died? There were several Flewelling relatives in that area. | Hannah OUTHOUSE
