Charles H. Brockelbank, 93, of 44 Gorham Street, a lifelong resident of Canandaigua and former grocer here, died today at the Elm Manor Nursing Home following a long illness.
Mr. Brockelbank was born January 29, 1869. For many years he owned and operated a grocery store on Main Street. He was an enthusiastic gardener and was well known for his flowers and vegetables which he raised in his large garden at his former home on Howell Street for many years. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Rexford W. of Canandaigua, and Elliot F. of Springfield, NJ, two daughters, Mrs. Judson Pratt of Brooklyn, and Mrs. William B. Moore of New Haven, Conn, and several grandchildren. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. (Obit provided by Hanley) | Charles H. BROCKELBANK

In the 1905 Ontario County Journal it said he opened a new store in the former Continental Bakery stand on Main, just South of Bristol Street in Canandaigua. Besides the full line of groceries, he will make a specialty of the Tuckerton sausage, hams and bacon, all made by him under an old recipe, and just about the most toothsome and delicacies imaginable. Funeral services for Miss Flora Brockelbank, 69, who died in the Health Home, Monday, following a long illness, were held from the home of Charles Brockelbank, Howell Street, Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Hardy Lumb offciated and interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Rexford W. Bing Brockelbank of West Lake Road died yesterday, May 10, at Thompson Hospital. He was 84. Mr. Brockelbank was a lifelong resident of Canandaigua and president of the former E. R. Church Insurance Agency on South Main Street.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Merrill Hose Fire Department and the Canandaigua Country Club. He was a former member of the Canandaigua Rotary Club.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Church Brockelbank, a daughter Mrs. Douglas Jean Simmons of Canandaigua, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a nephew and two nieces. | Rexford Warner BROCKELBANK

Clara was baptized and confirmed in the Springdale Lutheran Church, Mt. Horeb, WI. She was a member of the Pella Lutheran Church, Clinton, WI, and its Ladies Aid Society. She was a member of the Fairfield Grange (Bradford twp, Rock Co, WI), the Delavan Efficiency Club, Zor Auxiliary and Daughters of the Nile. She was also an honorary member of the Rural Advancement Club.
Clara wanted to publish a piece of music as her sister Sophie had done. Although she had written a piece called "Beautiful Wisconsin" it was never published. Slow, parlor music was not in vogue. The Outhouse Family Record indicates that she had several pieces copyrighted.
Clara had a piano but she also wanted an organ. After her husband died, she purchased a double keyboard organ.
Clara's grand-daughter remembers her as a very considerate, caring person. She adored her grandchildren and wanted to please them whenever she could. Christmas always meant a fancy new dress. | Clara Josephine BROSTUEN

Roy and Clara bought lived in the Madison area in the early years. They also lived at Beloit, but I don't know if they owned or rented a farm. Sometime after LeRoy quit high school, they bought a 160-acre farm on Trescher Road at Avalon in Rock Co, Wisc which he farmed for many years. For retirement, Roy and Clara bought a one-room school house at Delavan ca 1960. They converted the one-room structure into a two-bedroom house. It originally had hard-wood flooring which Roy and LeRoy tore up and reinstalled in the farm at Avalon where LeRoy and Alice were living. The farm at Avalon was sold a short time later to Lige Inman who later remodeled it. In 2011, Lige sold the farm to one of the sons of Floyd and Coleen Huisheere, classmates of this recorder. | Clara Josephine BROSTUEN
