George Clinton Cruger (b. abt. 1811; in New Hamp.?; d. abt. 1855) married Hester Ann Leverich (b. 8/17/1815; cited as "Hetty A." in 1850 NYC census; d. 4/23/1901, Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill, NY). Cruger was cited as "Crooker" in 1850 NYC census, and the name mysteriously appears in family letters; however, I've been unable to trace the Crooker connection.
Douglas Wright Cruger, author of a book on Cruger genealogy, reported in 1985 (in a letter to my uncle, w/o citing source) that Hester Ann's father was Benjamin Leverich of Cortlandt, Westchester County. George and Hester had eight children, incl. George Albert Cruger, my great-grandfather and namesake (a Civil War veteran).
At LDS is a file that cites Benjamin Leverich, b. 1700, Newton, Queens, Long Island, wife Mary (variant sp. Leveritch used); Benjamin, chr. 1733, Newton; Benjamin, b. 1772; Benjamin, born 1803; Benjamin, b. 1827 (latter from Caleb L. of North Castle Twp., Westchester County).
Leveriches are buried at Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill, and in several other Westchester cemeteries. | George Clinton CRUGER

He was the son of James Gregg and Patience Marie Eggleston Culbertson.
The 1880 federal census lists George living with his mother in Scott Twp., Freemont County, Iowa. He was working as a common laborer. Annie is living with her parents in Spring Valley, Monona Co., IA. Lessie Wolcott thinks that George and Anna may have been married in Onawa, Monona Co., IA.
In 1920 George was living in Jackson, Fall River County, South Dakota, with his children. Anna had died of TB by the time that census was taken. Although no profession is given for him, he may have been helping his mother with her ranch since he was living next door to her. Lessie Wolcott said that George moved to live near the Parson family in Hot Springs, Fall River Co., SD, and worked in a stone quarry after his wife, Anna, died. Wolcott said George and Anna are both buried in Long Pine, Brown County, Nebraska.
Parsons indicates that George died 28 April 1923.
