Johannes Hainer was a miller in NY and became one of Butler's Rangers, served at Niagara in 1783, listed as John Henor, son of George (Jury) Hanor. He and Jacob Dittrick (Dederick) were the first settlers at St. Catharines. John Hainer owned land both in Grantham and in Louth, adjoining townships in what was from 1791 called Upper Canada, then Canada West, and now the province of Ontario.
Note: According to Upper Canada Land Petitions, Record Group 1, L3, vol. 222a, Bundle 1, No. 42, John Hainer who served in Butler's Rangers settled in Canada immediately after the close of the War in 1784.... His family consisted of a wife and seven children, four of whom were born in the U.S. In Reid's United Empire Loyalists of Ontario, four children are given, plus an unnamed daughter (appears to be older than Catharine) who married Abraham Clendening of Grantham, received a land grant in 1795. A 1797 land Petition gives the names of two more sons, David and Robert, born before 1789. (1797 Canadian land petition) | Johannes HAINER
