NELSON L. OTISES OF WINDHAM FETED ON GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
WINDHAM--Mrs. and Mrs. Nelson Lloyd Otis of Kendall Pond rd., Windham, were feted at an open house at their home on Dec. 12 in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. The couple received many gifts, money, flowers and telephone calls. Congratulatory messages were receieved from as far away as Florida and Canada.
They were married on Dec. 15, 1915 by the Rev. Frederick Lockwood, Baptist minister, at the home of the bride's parents in Waverly, Mass.
The couple had seven children, six of whom are living: Lloyd of Hudson; George of Windham; Byron of New York; Irene, wife of Selectman Edward Herbert; Charles and Harvard, both of Windham and they have 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Otis was born in Nova Scotia, later moving the Massachusetts. He is a retired machinist having been employed by the International Paper Box Co in Nashua. He is an avid hunter and fisherman. He is a past member of the IOOF and Waverly grange. He also served as an assessor of the Windham Presbyterian church.
Mrs. Otis is the former Etta May Morehouse of Boston. She is a member of Our Ladies Benevolent society and the former Neighborhood club.
The couple moved to Windham from Waltham on July 14, 1933. Since that time, Mrs. Otis has been active in the Presbyterian church. She was feted at a party last year in observance of her retirement as a Sunday School teacher after serving 30 years in that capacity. She is still active in the Presbyterian church, with donations of handicrafts, scrapbooks and plants when the occasion arises.
Some 100 persons from Massachusetts and New Hampshire attended the open house. A three-tiered anniversary cake was cut by the couple, and a buffet lunch was served by their children. Ruth Herbert was in charge of the guest book.
