  • Notes
    • Julia came home from William Henry's funeral and told her daughter, Genevieve, "I have done my duty. I am going to bed and I will not be getting up again. She did, and she didn't. She died three months later.

Family history has her marrying William Henry on the rebound. What ever the truth of the story, she was a loving, faithful wife for 65 years. While William Henry was in the army she supported the children and herself by sewing. One job was making buttonholes in soldier's uniforms at 4 cents a buttonhole. She got a sewing machine and made cloaks, etc. She saved much of the money she and William received (she got five dollars a month and he got eight dollars a month) and when he came home she had three hundred dollars in the bank. She had backbone and spunk. Her grandson, Walter Outhouse, said she was much the better half of the family.
