Julia O. Holmes family Christmas letter of 12/25/1972 states (in part):
Samuel Field of Cortland, New York, who has an ancestral line going back to a companion of William the Conqueror. One of that companion's descendants, Roger De la Feld of Somerby, England who had 2 sons born 1277 and 1279. We descend from Thomas. A current descendent of brother Richard recently welcomed me into the Field family--we are separated according to the line of descent worked out by Marshall Field, by 21 generations.
