Pertinent portion of referenced document:
It was about this time that Cecil Noftsger registered in as the firsst H & V employee. Cecil was born and raised on a farm near Lamoni. After he finished school, he helped his father on a farm until he met with an accident injuring his hip. This caused considerable pain and was a long time healing. Cecil wanted to get into something besides farming and contacted Mr. Vredenburg at the Lamoni store. He as hired to learn the meat cutting trade under an old veteran namely Frank Thompson. Frank was getting old and hard of hearing and wanted to retire. So, in a few months Cecil took over the managership of the shop. One year later, he went to Beaconsfield as manager. A year and a half later he moved to Grand River to manage that store.
The article is vague on dates, but it would appear that Cecil began working for Hy-Vee around 1930 or a little before.
