Notes |
- Albert was born on 21 November 1907 but his baptismal certificate states that he was baptised on October 5th 1907. He was named after his father Bert (albert) who was registered as Alexander Andrew.
Albert served with the A.I.F. in world war 2. His Army No. was QX39748. He commenced military service on the 24th April 1942. and was discharged on 30th January 1946. He was attached to the 2nd Australian Infantry Transport Ordinance. He volunteered much earlier in the war but was not accepted due to his age and family responsibilities.
After the war Albert worked at several occupations including contracted owner truck driver. He worked for many years for the Stanthorpe Shire Council as a foreman in the construction and maintenance work. His work was highly regarded and this led to him being asked to go to New Guinea to work on a major road construction project. Ill health forced his return to Australia.
