  • Notes
    • George Clinton Cruger (b. abt. 1811; in New Hamp.?; d. abt. 1855) married Hester Ann Leverich (b. 8/17/1815; cited as "Hetty A." in 1850 NYC census; d. 4/23/1901, Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill, NY). Cruger was cited as "Crooker" in 1850 NYC census, and the name mysteriously appears in family letters; however, I've been unable to trace the Crooker connection.

Douglas Wright Cruger, author of a book on Cruger genealogy, reported in 1985 (in a letter to my uncle, w/o citing source) that Hester Ann's father was Benjamin Leverich of Cortlandt, Westchester County. George and Hester had eight children, incl. George Albert Cruger, my great-grandfather and namesake (a Civil War veteran).

At LDS is a file that cites Benjamin Leverich, b. 1700, Newton, Queens, Long Island, wife Mary (variant sp. Leveritch used); Benjamin, chr. 1733, Newton; Benjamin, b. 1772; Benjamin, born 1803; Benjamin, b. 1827 (latter from Caleb L. of North Castle Twp., Westchester County).

Leveriches are buried at Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill, and in several other Westchester cemeteries.
